Manil Suri

Manil Suri, an Indian-American mathematician and writer, is a distinguished university professor in the department of mathematics and statistics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times, in which capacity he writes frequently on mathematical topics. His mathematics outreach projects include "The Mathematics of Being Human," a play co-authored with Michele Osherow, which deals with the tensions that erupt when mathematics engages with literature.

Suri has written a trilogy of novels dealing with the past, present and imagined future of India. His fiction has been translated into 27 languages and has won several national and international honors. His field of research is numerical analysis.
